I live in a little town/village type place, but I have a fairly big backyard. My dad gardens and I want o make my own garden. My dad grew up on a farm and knows a lot about plants so he could help me.
What are some things I need to start? What do I need to know?
Look at some local gardens, talk to gardeners, check out some garden books, and, of course, research some sights on the web. Just don’t get too ambitious your first year.
Tomatoes and peppers are easy to grow. Just till up a little place – or dig it up and hoe it really good until the dirt is fine. Then plant – weed between the plants often.

You first need to find what area is best, (most sun)
you can just lay out paper thickly on top of your lawn held down by bricks, soil
this will kill the grass
its always better to start your seedlings off in a small pot first
when there are say 4 leaves or its 3 inches high, 90mm
move part of your paper aside and plant your seedling
your dad will be so proud
and you will feel good too, gardening is a great way to good health
Ask your dad over for a few Saturdays. Feed him dinner and get him outside to get you started.
