Depending on where you live, in Europe I’d recommend herbs like rosemary, lavender, sage, parsley, thyme, chives. Zucchini (marrows) will easily grow in pots, so will peas, runner beans, tomatoes and cucumbers, radishes, also lettuce and spinach or leaf beet. These you can all still sow. There is any amount of flowers that you can grow, from carnations and sweet williams over wallflower to geraniums and or miniature roses. Even now you could still sow nasturtiums and sunflowers, if they are not too big for your balcony.

I’m starting a garden of plants with bright colors and cool shapes and I kind of got inspiration from reading about the garden at the Burrow as described in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. What’s a really cool (and kind of spooky) gnarled up and twisted tree that would add a unique twist to a garden?

I have recently had my front garden landscaped, mostly shingle and groups of rocks. Very low maintenance but rather bare (my daughter calls it “Stonehenge”). I am considering ornamental grasses, but would like some colour and cover. I must admit I am not an enthusiast!

I want to grow a surprise in our garden for my family. I need suggestions for unusual food. Something that you wouldn’t normaly see in a garden.

Garden tips – what have you learnt… for me it was to dig a fair size hole and fill it with topsoil, leaving a hole still where you plant the plant – then you just fill the hole up with water – it takes so little water this way… you can grow squash, tomatoes, cucumbers zukini etc. this way so easy to water/so little water and you do not need good soil, just the soil you put in the hole needs to be good.

I have a south east balcony, east side tends to get very windy. I love plants with big blossoms and bright colours.

Hi,
I am new to gardening and I have a small garden with poor sunshine. I would like to grow plants (trees) or some vegetables, what do you suggest? I really would like to plant lemons but I guess I needs lots of light for them!
Thank you

I grew up in Northwest Indiana and my Grandma had a GLORIOUS garden. She was from Mississippi and boy did she have a green thumb. I will likely be relocating in 2 years & we’re open to a hundred places around the country.. we love adventure AND family.. Here’s what I’d like to grow and please don’t say it can’t all be done, because Grandma did it! Thank you!!
Apple tree, a cherry tree & eucalyptus tree or plants.
Pergola with grapes. I will grow onions, carrots, potatoes, celery, green onions, strawberries, cabbage, collard mustard and spinach greens, tomatoes and brussels sprouts.
I’d like flowers, too, but I’ll leave those to my hubby who loves landscaping.
Lilac bushes (my favorite) !!!
Lots of herbs like cilantro, basil, rosemary, lavender & such for cooking and making soaps & candles.
