I’m not exaggerating – I’ve killed an aloe plant, rosemary (twice), even a bamboo that you only have to water once a month! Right now I have a cactus as a gift and I’ve kept it alive for almost 6 months and would like to expand. I’m looking for an indoor plant and get some sun (I’m on the west side of my building). Sometimes I go away for a weekend and don’t really have anyone to water plants for me. Ideas?

What Do You Honestly Think About Someone Who Goes To “oxford” For Gardening?

I have a close relative who went to Oxford for gardening yet they do really LITTLE of it (planting, designing, watching beaufiful plants grow).
Basically they haven’t any real experience, only book knowledge.
Yet I have this neighbor close by who is an avid gardener/plants many shrubs, bulbs, seeds, trees~just about ANYTHING you could think of. They enjoy it, get down in the soil and plant away …..
What do you think of the person who took gardening classes at Oxford TRYING to give advice to AN EXPERIENCED gardner of several years?
(tries to tell them what to plant, basically talking down to them, ect–when all they’ve personally planted was a couple of rose bushes and tomato plants?)
What’s your opinion on this matter please?
THank you for your thoughts

Because they use water that all of the roommate pay for, I want to make it fair to everyone but there is no way to determine exactly how much more water the garden uses.
Should I charge them a full portion of the bill (ie if there are 3 renters and 1 gardener, charge everyone 25% of the bill each month)?
Should I charge them a flat fee? If so, how much?
The garden is 13′x10′.

I live in New Orleans, Louisiana and have been wanting to grow my own herbs and small plants. I don’t have experience in gardening whatsoever and I’d like to know what I should start off with and what plants/herbs are good for this climate (hot and humid). I would like to plant something within the next month. What’s good to plant at this time of year?

I am interested in turning my small time hobby of gardening into a bit of a career. Are there classes, certifications, training that I can take in order to become an expert on plants, trees, etc? I’d like to have a deep knowledge of the various kinds of trees, shrubs, flowers that work in different climates, how to best plant and maintain them, to design landscapes with a variety of well-coordinated plants, etc. Should I try to become a certified arborist? Where do I start exploring this potential new career direction? Thanks.
