Both will put off a good amount of heat. If you want a hotter chiminea add more wood. Make sure you buy a single mouth opening chiminea for efficient drafting. They can really heat up and burn very clean. With a gas heater you just turn up the gas. The gas ones can range from a small personal heater to a large industrial. A typical patio gas heater will usually burn from 30,000 to 50,000 btu and a tank can last 10-15hours depending on the usage. You can get a burn time from the gas heater manufacturer since pretty much 1 BTU = so much gas. A chiminea is a great alternative if you like a nice fire centerpiece and want to make marshmallows or hotdogs with the kids. Our lake home faces north and the chiminea design protects the fire from the wind. It is made of cast aluminum and radiates heat on all sides but the highest heat is directly in front of it. Stay away from firepits, they are hard to keep lit, leave a ton of ash behind, and you will never use them in any wind at all. You will probably use a chiminea much more then a patio heater since it can also be a center piece for friends and family. The chiminea is also a much “greener” heat source.

Probably the most heat because it will be constant would be the gas heat. The others are just for the convenience and atheistic appeal,in Lou of a fireplace.I like the fire pit because it has even heating on all sides and I can burn anything in it.You can cook in either the Chimera or the fire pit,so which ever one suits your purpose best should be the right one for you.

chimenea is more environmentally friendly – hasn’t one of the large DIY supermarket chains stopped selling patio heaters. Wood is a renewable fuel and has taken CO2 out of the atmosphere during its growth. Depending on where you live buying seasoned logs may be a problem – new wood smokes an awful lot; is difficult to light and eventually tars up the inside. Chimeneas can be used for barbecuing small amounts of food if not too hot -when you are letting them die down or just put small amounts of wood on them. Wrapped up in aluminium foil. Disclaimer!! should it go wrong for you!

i have a patio heater it’s great when it turns a bit chilly & you get instant heat, my nighbour has a chimenea & has to light it befor it gets cool, & it uses a lot of wood, he uses a large bag a night, my gas last quite a long time i have two a year, but we are out till 12am.

have you thought about a fire pit?
