Truthfully, my best book is not a book at all it has always been to observe Mother Nature and use the Internet. Couple that with my common sense and I never felt the need to buy the book and read it, therefore giving me more time to watch the wildlife in their habitat.
EDITED: I like Missouri Conservationist and it free they might have one similar in your state…

for just birds “the bird garden” by National Home Garden Club is a good one as for animals it depends on what type animals you want. You might try your state fish and game dept for suggestions
